North Shore, Oahu HI
Oil on Aluminium
24"x36"
This painting illustrates my first impression of Hawaii. It was based on a camera roll and the memories of my first trip around Oahu with my family. My brother in law pulled over saying there would probably be plenty turtles swimming around the shore. Sure enough there it was, the hawaiian Honu. The green sea turtle. Comfortably swimming and feeding off the reefs around tourists. They are a symbol of wisdom and good luck in the Hawaiian culture. They venture into the ocean all over the pacific but they never forget where they hatched from, and always come back to the same beach to nest. Their presence transpire a feeling of peace, and confidence, with gracefully efficient movements. I felt so lucky to see this turtle, I was also overwhelmed with the feeling of being welcomed.
